(WWSB) - Investigators in Palmetto have announced a break in an unsolved 2014 homicide and are actively looking for a suspect in the shooting. Palmetto Police have obtained an arrest warrant for 28-year-old Ricardo Garcia, Jr., of Palmetto in connection with the 2014 shooting outside The Hall nightclub. On March 22, 2014, Javare Thomas of Sarasota was shot in the head while riding in the backseat of a sedan in Palmetto. He was a passenger in a friend’s car that had just left the nightclub. As Javare and his friends traveled along Haban Boulevard towards U.S. 41, a black pick-up truck pulled up next to their vehicle and the driver fired multiple shots into the sedan. One of the shots hit Javare in the head. His friends rushed him to Manatee Memorial Hospital, where he died

Police say Thomas was a passenger in a friend’s car that had just left The Hall night club in Palmetto. As their car traveled along Haban Boulevard toward U.S. 41, a black pick-up truck pulled up next to the vehicle and the driver fired several shots into the sedan. One of the shots struck Thomas in the head. His friends took him to Manatee Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Judge: Civic center to be used for upcoming murder trial

Jacob Harper charged with murder in connection to the death of Newark man The Daily Jeffersonian Guernsey County Common Pleas Court Judge Daniel G. Padden has designated Pritchard-Laughlin Civic Center as a courthouse for a murder trial scheduled to begin later this month. Jacob Russell Harper, 26, Newcomerstown, faces one count each of aggravated murder with a three-year firearm specification; murder with a three-year firearm specification; and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. The five-day trial is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on April 19. The trial will begin with voir dire at 8:30 a.m. Harper was indicted by a Guernsey County grand jury on Oct. 8, 2020, for his alleged crimes less than two months earlier on Aug. 23.
