A vacancy opened up on the court in early September, when Judge

Federal court ruled Thursday that the State of Iowa can t ban five civil rights protesters from the Iowa State Capitol grounds.
The court granted the ACLU of Iowa s preliminary injunction to lift the bans that followed a July 1 altercation between Des Moines Black Liberation Movement supporters and law enforcement on Capitol grounds.
The injunction was requested through a lawsuit the ACLU filed October 5 on behalf of Jalesha Johnson, Louise Bequeaith, Haley Jo Dikkers, Brad Penna and Brandi Ramus who were among 17 people arrested, including two juveniles, July 1.
