Kirby Wins Bench Verdict, $17 Million On Collision, Spill

August 2, 2021 By David Murray On July 8, a federal district judge in Houston exonerated Kirby Inland Marine from any liability or fault in a May 2019 collision in the Houston Ship Channel. The collision between one of its tank barges and an oceangoing vessel, the Genesis River, resulted in the Kirby barge releasing 473,600 gallons of reformate, a gasoline blending stock, into the channel. The bench ruling was a finding of fact and law that the operator of the Genesis River holds 100 percent of the liability, making any subsequent appeal unlikely. Judge Jeffrey Brown of the United States District Court of the Southern District of Texas, Galveston Division, ruled that the captain of the Genesis River failed to disclose to the two harbor pilots that his boat had poor handling and was recommended to go no faster than 6 to 8 knots within the Houston Ship Channel. Hushpuppi: Order by United States court to arrest non-American, Abba Kyari lawful - Bamgbose

Barrister Olusegun Bamgbose, National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has told the Police Service Commission, PSC, that there was nothing abnormal, out of place, strange or unlawful for the United States’ court to make an order for the arrest of a non-citizen of America. The senior lawyer maintained that it was in order for the US Court to order the arrest of the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari and extradite him to face judgment abroad. Recall that the PSC had over the weekend said that it was strange that the United States Court could order the arrest of a non-citizen resident in Nigeria, saying that Nigeria is a sovereign state with its laws and justice systems which should be respected.

FBI Indictment: PSC Suspends DCP Abba Kyari

Kingsley Nwezeh in Abuja Acting on the recommendation by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Usman Baba, to suspend the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, over his indictment by United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Police Service Commission (PSC), yesterday, approved the IG request and has suspended Kyari. The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Usman Baba, had Sunday recommended the immediate suspension of Deputy Commisioner of Police and Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Mr. Abba Kyari. He had also set up a four-man Special Investigative Panel (SIP) headed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Investigations, DIG, Joseph Egbunike, to investigate all the allegations contained in the relevant US court documents served the Nigeria Police by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
