A Santa Ana Police officer was charged with accepting $128,000 in bribes from a crime figure seeking to thwart law enforcement activities against his illegally operating businesses.
Steven Lopez, 28, of Chino, was charged with bribery in a single-count information filed today in United States District Court. In a plea agreement also filed, Lopez agreed to plead guilty to this felony offense. Lopez is expected to plead guilty to the offense in United States District Court in the coming weeks.
According to his plea agreement, Lopez served as a police officer with the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) from April 2016 to November 2020. From August 2019 until November 2020, Lopez received approximately $128,000 in bribes from an individual – named in court documents as “Co-Schemer 1” – seeking to influence Lopez in the performance of his official duties as a police officer, the plea agreement states.

Robert Jeff Dodson, 59, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.
Jeff was born in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania on December 10, 1960 to Robert Allen and Jeane (Stevens) Dodson. He graduated from North High School in 1979. Jeff earned a bachelor s degree from Indiana University in 1983 and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University of Dayton in 1986. While at IU, Jeff was the president of his fraternity, Indiana Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon. San Jose, California - Jonathan Chang, an elder at a South Bay church, was sentenced to 48 months in prison for stealing more than $7.5 million in donated funds intended for the church, announced United States Attorney David L. Anderson and Federal Bureau of Investigation and Special Agent in Charge Craig D. Fair. The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Edward J. Davila, United States District Judge.
The sentence follows a guilty verdict after a five-week trial in United States District Court. The evidence at trial demonstrated that Jonathan Chang, 64, of Cupertino, California, engaged in a scheme to defraud a wealthy donor of money intended to support the Home of Christ 4 Christian Church (HOC4), located in Saratoga, California. Chang, who served as an elder responsible for managing the finances of the church, furthered his scheme by creating entities with names similar to the church.
