Meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm Sunday evening that is heading toward Ottawa, according to Environment Canada.(Adrian Wyld/Canadian Press)
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Ottawa on Sunday evening.
Environment Canada said the thunderstorm was located over the City of Ottawa and moving east at 40 km/h as of 8:15 p.m. Sunday.
The storm was capable of producing very strong wind gusts around 90 km/h and ping pong ball size hail, the weather agency said.

Warden Roger Haley informed counties council of his decision on Thursday, citing the positive vaccine levels and the decline of active COVID in the region.

Haley said the fact that 67 per cent of Leeds and Grenville residents are fully vaccinated and that there are only two people with the virus in the health unit were big factors in his decision.
As well, the impending opening of the border to American visitors and Ontario’s relaxation of COVID restrictions under Step 3 of its reopening plan helped him in his decision, Haley said.
