Taipei, March 8 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan closed lower Monday after a wild session, with the main board giving up more than 200 points in gains amid concerns over a possible uptrend in U.S. treasury yields, dealers said.
Selling focused on the tech sector, in particular large cap semiconductor stocks, the recent strong showing of which led investors to lock in profits, while old economy and financial stocks remained largely resilient, lending support to the broader market, they said.
The Taiex, the weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), ended down 35.12 points, or 0.22 percent, at 15,820.11, after moving between 15,816.50, and 16,074.97. Turnover stood at NT$281.31 billion (US$10.03 billion), compared with NT$309.55 billion a session earlier.
