A Latino civil rights group is suing Iowa officials over the state s new law shortening the window for mail-in and Election Day voting in the state.
The League of United Latin American Citizens of Iowa, aided by high-profile Democratic lawyer Marc Elias, filed a lawsuit against Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate and Attorney General Thomas Miller on Tuesday, claiming the GOP-backed changes place unreasonable restrictions on voters.
The lawsuit, which was shared online, asks the Iowa District Court for Polk County to declare that several sections of the measure violate the state constitution and block its implementation. The group also asks for an order awarding Plaintiff its costs, disbursements, and reasonable attorneys fees.
