SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has appointed a committee tasked with looking at issues related to Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) - which have been the subject of debate between healthcare insurers and private sector doctors.
The row stems from insurers excluding many specialists from their IP doctor panels, which guide policyholders on selecting medical providers.

The 12-member Multilateral Healthcare Insurance Committee (MHIC) will come into effect on Apr 27, said MOH in a press release on Wednesday (Apr 14).

Integrated Health Information Systems, a technology agency, will partner with trade associations General Insurance Association Singapore and Life Insurance Association Singapore to create an integrated platform that enables faster processing of hospitalisation claims. Proposals have been called to develop the platform. Upon its completion, policyholders from participating insurer Great Eastern will be able to use the platform in a pilot before being scaled nationwide.
HOW IT WORKS
Through this platform, healthcare providers will be able to retrieve details of a patient’s policy coverage for Integrated Shield Plans and group hospital or surgical insurance.
