N S RCMP continue to investigate death of 20-year-old North Preston man; asking public for information

  HALIFAX As the Nova Scotia RCMP continue to investigate the death of 20-year-old Quintez Downey they are asking anyone with information to come forward. Just before 1 a.m. on Jan. 27, police responded to reports of shots fired in North Preston. According to police, officers located Downey who was on his way to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died as a result of his injuries. Downey s death was ruled a homicide following an autopsy by the Medical Examiner. Following the initial investigation, police say the victim was shot near the area of Clarence Street and was believed to have been alone.

Halifax police charge two men with weapons offences after seizing gun and ammunition from vehicle

  HALIFAX Halifax Regional Police has charged two men from Halifax with multiple weapons offences in relation to an ongoing investigation. Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, investigators from the Guns and Gangs Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, along with members of the HRP Emergency Response Team, stopped a vehicle on Cobequid Road in Lower Sackville, N.S. During the stop, investigators seized a handgun and ammunition. Vernon Washington Brown, 20, and Erich William Heckel, 20, are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Wednesday to face the charges. Dartmouth man facing charges related to historical sexual assaults

  HALIFAX Investigators with the Sexual Assault Investigation Team of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged a man from Dartmouth in relation to historical sexual assaults.  Police say the assaults happened in Dartmouth during the 1980s and 1990s. Gary Floyd Larose, 82, is facing several charges, including one count each of sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and public mischief, as per the criminal codes that were in place at the time the offences occurred. Police say Larose knew the female victim who was a child at the time of the offences. For this reason, no other details about the victim will be released out of respect and concern for her privacy and wellbeing.

Police arrest three people following Dartmouth weapons call

HALIFAX Police are investigating following a weapons call on Sunday afternoon in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. On Sunday, at 2 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a weapons complaint in the 0-50 block of Medway Court. Police say a caller observed what appeared to be a person with a handgun damaging a vehicle and then entering a residence on Medway Court. Police say officers quickly secured the residence and arrested three adults – two men and one woman – without incident. Police are not seeking any other suspects. No injuries have been reported due to the incident. On Sunday evening, Halifax Regional Police issued a release saying “officers have secured the residence while a search warrant is obtained.”
