Fayettevilleâs Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), which is intended to help the city streamline development review, manage development patterns, and improve corridor aesthetics, has now entered the completed-draft phase and is on track for adoption and publication this spring.
As the city in 2017 updated its Comprehensive Plan, leaders recognized that there was a need to unify the numerous ordinances and regulations into one cohesive document. The UDO is essentially that single document that addresses how property is developed, combining and replacing the current zoning ordinances and development regulations as well as any other applicable regulations.

Saratoga Springs Mayor Meg Kelly has decided not to seek a third term. The Democrat, now entering her fourth year as mayor, spoke to WAMC’s Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard.
Prior to serving as mayor and a member of the five-person city council, Mayor Meg Kelly was a Deputy under the city’s previous mayor, Joanne Yepsen.
Now, with a year left of her second two-year term, the Democrat says at the end of 2021 it will be “time to turn the baton over and reinvent” herself.
“I do think that my team is an excellent team. We’ve done superior work with the council and the employees in city hall but it’s time. Everybody knows when their time is, and I felt it, and I just said, It’s time.’ So there was nothing that pushed me over the edge for this. This is just something that…I did two terms, that’s a good civic duty and I’ve done my public service and it’s time to turn it over. And I think I’m leaving it in a much better place,” said

WEIRTON A dispute over a community garden was the focus of Tuesday’s meeting of the Weirton Zoning Board of Appeals.
New Life Church, located at 1492 Knight Road, had requested a variance to permit a 6-feet-high fence in a front yard for the garden, which has been installed on the church’s property. Under current city code, the maximum height of a fence in a front yard is 4 feet.
MOREHEAD CITY â A residential subdivision that was originally envisioned in the 1960s is being revived as its developers seek sketch plan review from city officials for the project.Â
The Morehead City Planning Board got a first look at the proposed development Dec. 15 during its regular monthly meeting held via Zoom. Developers Bell and Phillips PLLC, on behalf of owners Jim & Em Properties LLC, submitted a request for sketch plan review for a subdivision to be located at the termini of Hamilton and Harrell drives.
As proposed, the development would contain 17 residential lots with an average lot size of 11,448 square feet. It would be serviced by city water and sewer, and the fire marshal has requested the development retain the existing street names in order to adhere to the cityâs numerical addressing system.
