JMC students excel at Sussex County Fire Prevention Awards

John M. Clayton Elementary School students earned multiple Sussex County fire-prevention awards at a special ceremony on March 21 at the Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company. The school’s first-place poster and essay winners were submitted for county review for Grades K-5 and for a special category. JMC students earning county awards included: Avery Bradford — 1st Place, Kindergarten; Olivia Owens — 1st Place, First Grade; Sofia Beranza — 1st Place, Second Grade; William Retzos — 1st Place, Fifth Grade; Colby Snedaker — 2nd Place, Fourth Grade; and Ingrid Mendoza — 3rd Place, Special Category. Auxiliary member Jaime Swartz, a STEM teacher at JMC, serves as the coordinator of the Fire Prevention contest at the school. Uptown Magazine The Caress and IFundWomen of Color Virtual Summit, which takes place March 18, is open to Black women and women of color small business owners. With the fact that small businesses owned by Black women and women of color have been hit particularly hard by the pandemic in mind, Caress and Caress and IFundWomen of Color Virtual Summit, on March 18, 2021. All Black women and WOC small business owners are welcome to attend. Caress and IFundWomen of Color know how important coaching, mentorship, networking, and funding are to realizing entrepreneurial dreams. So they teamed up to create a “go-to funding resource for diverse, early-stage entrepreneurs,” according to the website. IFundWomen of Color aims to make the small business world more inclusive by helping Black women and WOC generate capital through crowdfunding and grants. The resource also provides coaching and connections so these women can not only launch their businesses, but also remain successful.
