TG4 calls for overhaul of broadcasting funding model Updated / Wednesday, 16 Dec 2020 19:33 Political Correspondent The Director General of TG4 has called for an overhaul of the funding model for broadcasting and a strong regulator to deal with the challenges within the sector. Speaking to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht, Alan Esslemont said that the independent production sector in Ireland is currently in a difficult situation. He said TG4 believed that RTÉ should have the public funding required to meet its obligations, but the equivalent amount should be shared by TG4, Screen Ireland and Broadcasting Authority of Ireland s Sound and Vision Fund.

Near FM wins Celtic Media Festival award for Best Radio Drama – Near fm 90 3

Executive producer Ciaran Murray Near FM has won the Celtic Media award for Radio Drama in 2020. Beating off competition the BBC, Near FM won the award as part of their work encouraging new audio drama from women writers. The Torc Award for Best Radio Drama The Celtic Media Festival is an annual event that promotes film, TV and radio content among Celtic Nations and Regions. Near FM won Best Radio Drama for Petal’s written by Gillian Greer with script consultancy by Lisa Tierney-Keogh. Petal’s, which was also directed by Jeda de Brí and starred Kate Gilmore, was produced as part of New Drama Hour, a series of audio drama’s written exclusively by women writers.
