Hasan comes down heavily on BNP for defending Hefazat

DHAKA, April 26, 2021 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today came down heavily on the BNP secretary general for his comment over the arrest of Hefazat leaders, who were involved in the mayhem amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“How is it possible that those, who unleashed misdeeds during the pandemic, could not be arrested?,” questioned Hasan while addressing a distribution ceremony of health protection materials among the members of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and different media houses at Jatiya Press Club in the capital.
DUJ distributed the materials on behalf of the Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Sub Committee.
More 2000 journalists to get assistance amid COVID-19: Hasan

DHAKA, April 25, 2021 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said that the government has taken a decision to provide assistance to 2,000 more journalists as part of its financial assistance to the newsmen to help them tide over their problems amid the Coronavirus crisis.
The minister, also the chairman of Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust, informed this to reporters after an emergency meeting of the trust at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.
Information Secretary and also trustee board vice chairman Khaja Mia addressed the meeting through online.
Hefajat leaders admit BNPâs active link with March mayhem: Hasan

DHAKA, April 24, 2021 (BSS) â Awami League Joint General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the arrested Hefajat leaders admitted BNP-Jamaatâs active involvement and financing in the mayhem carried out on March 26-28 last.
âArrested Hefajat leaders started disclosing the truth. They have already admitted where and when the meetings were held and who funded,â he said while replying to reporters at his Minto Road residence here.
Earlier, the minister virtually inaugurated food aid distribution for 2000 low income group families at his home constituency of Rangunia in Chattogram under his personal initiative.
Swadhinata Parishad distributes essentials among city dwellers

DHAKA, Apr 23, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad today distributed essential commodities and masks among city dwellers in the city’s Sayedabad area.
Under the supervision of the organisation’s general secretary Shahadat Hossain Toel, packets of various essential food items, including rice, pulse, potato and onion, and masks were distributed among around 300 people in the area this morning, following the health guidelines.
Welcoming the initiative of Swadhinata Parishad, Awami League joint general secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud in a message said those, who have come forward for the welfare of the people responding to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will be remembered for their contribution in tackling the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Govt arrests miscreants, not Alems: Hasan

DHAKA, April 20, 2021 (BSS) – Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the law enforcement agencies are arresting only miscreants, not any Alem or religious leader.
“The law enforcers are arresting those who gave directives and the miscreants who carried out mayhems across the country on March 26 and 28, burned houses and properties of innocent people, set fire to land office and burned documents of commoners and carried out attacks on rail stations and the masses,” he said.
The minister said this while replying to a query of newsmen over a comment of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, at his official residence at Mintu Road in the capital.
