MUMBAI: The Mumbai police has denied allegations of malice made by Republic TV and its editor-in- chief Arnab Goswami in the TRP scam case.
In two affidavits filed on Monday before a bench of Justices SS Shinde and Manish Pitale, the Mumbai police said it had not falsely implicated anybody, including Goswami or other functionaries of Republic TV, in the case.
In the affidavits, filed through senior counsel Kapil Sibal, the police said it had received a legitimate complaint regarding the scam, and it had initiated a probe following a preliminary inquiry and an analytical report submitted by the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC).

BARC is in no state to act as a neutral referee, even if the Republic case is kept aside. The only solution now is to completely supersede it and create a special commission which should look at radically new ways of governing the TRP system.

The Indian Express newspaper, in the aftermath of the latter’s report on channel head Arnab Goswami allegedly having paid BARC chief Partho Dasgupta $12,000 for two separate holidays and a total of Rs 40 lakh over three years.
Express had on January 25 reported that Dasgupta had made these claims in a handwritten note to Mumbai police. His lawyer Arjun Singh had said the note had been recorded âunder duressâ and had no “evidentiary value in the court of law.â

Congress leaders in Mumbai on Wednesday filed a complaint against Republic TV s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami over the WhatsApp chats between him and Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) s former CEO Partho Dasgupta.
Purported chats between Goswami and Dasgupta, which mentioned that the former was privy to the 2019 air strike by the IAF on the biggest JeM training camp in Balakot had surfaced recently and this has sparked a political furore.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Sachin Sawant took to Twitter and informed that they have filed a complaint, and also demanded Goswami s immediate arrest.
