The so-called revelations about Wasa made by the cabinet sub-committee have been public knowledge for years and years. Who didn’t know Wasa is a hotbed of corruption is who didn’t want to know.
Dear Editor: Government spinning Anansi stories to suppress workers’ wages
“[…] Minister Imbert has […] set the stage for entrenching the austerity programme the IMF has long been advising: privatisation, deregulation, the reduction of the public sector, wage suppression.
“This austerity, of course, involves the weakening of the trade unions through the hiving off of the health sector, a de facto wage freeze at 2013 rates, the wholesale introduction of fixed-term contracts over recent decades and the seduction of trade union leaders by the conglomerates and the political parties …”

WASA has a $10 billion debt

THE Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) currently has a $10 billion debt and is challenged to receive revenue from some of its customers. WASA officials made these disclosures to members of the Land and Physical Infrastructure joint select committee (JSC) during a virtual meeting on Wednesday.
In response to a question from Barataria/San Juan MP Saddam Hosein, WASA acting CEO Allan Poon King confirmed the company s total debt was currently $10 billion. Hosein asked if WASA made any recommendations to the Public Utilities Ministry to restructure the debt. Poon King replied he was unaware that such recommendations had been made.
IT seems as if the cries of âno waterâ are increasing daily by many communities. Yet the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) turns a deaf ear to these pleadings and seeks instead to chastise the consumer for wasting water, despite turning a blind eye to the wastage of millions of gallons of water by WASA itself! How many thousands of paying customers have reported leaks and WASA continues to ignore the reports? Not only that but its system deletes these reports if another report is made! Such inefficiency in its management system boggles the mind yet WASA continues to clamour for increased rates!
