Navy officials in Washington and on the waterfront are trying to help the Littoral Combat Ships grow more reliable and maintainable, amid a surface navy-wide effort to focus on crew-level maintenance as a means of improving operational availability.

The experimental unmanned Sea Hunter is the forerunner of the Navy’s proposed fleet of robotic warships.
WASHINGTON: The Navy is working on designs for its future Large and Medium Unmanned Surface Vessels that would allow them to support small crews for limited and specific missions, the service’s top unmanned systems officer said today.
Capt. Pete Small told the virtual Surface Navy convention that the Large USV will remain “essentially unmanned,” but will be equipped with room to berth a small crew to help getting underway and returning to a pier, refueling and doing repair work at sea. The Medium USV will not have the capacity to carry any sailors, however

An executive with the Alabama Democratic Party is taking aim at freshman U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl, R-Mobile, and is criticizing him for his role in challenging Electoral College votes this week in Washington, D.C.
Wade Perry, a Mobile native, told AL.com Tuesday – before the siege on the Capitol occurred on Wednesday – that Carl’s opposition of the Electoral College vote could signify an unwillingness to work on bipartisan agreements that will be important for the region’s burgeoning aerospace industry and for its expanding port.
