Journalist Michael Tracey has come under fire for his response to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez s Instagram video detailing her experience of the Capitol riots.

In response to a tweet about Ocasio-Cortez revealing in the same video that she is a survivor of sexual assault, Tracey said: This is a masterclass in emotional manipulation a genuine political/rhetorical skill. Gotta hand it to her.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in recounting her harrowing experience of the January 6 riots at the Capitol, said publicly for the first time that she is a sexual assault survivor and said that being told to move on from the riots last month reminded her of the tactics of abusers. These folks who tell us to move on, that it s not a big deal, that we should forget what happened or even telling us to apologize these are the same tactics of abusers, she said. And I m a survivor of sexual assault.
