Updated: 2:47 PM CST Feb 25, 2021 KOCO Staff An Oklahoma City police officer has been charged with first-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of a homeless man during a confrontation in December, 2020.The shooting took place on Dec. 11 in the 2100 block of West Hefner Road, near Hefner and Penn. in Oklahoma City. Bennie Edwards, 60, was shot and killed during a confrontation with officers. Sgt. Keith Duroy arrived on the scene first and spoke with Edwards. Authorities said Edwards opened up a folding-style knife he had in his right hand and began to tell Duroy to leave. Ardmore attorney Michael C. “Mike” Mordy was sworn in as president of the Oklahoma bar association from his office in downtown Ardmore during the organization’s first ever virtual oath of office ceremony. During his year as president Mordy will lead the OBA’s Board of Governors which meets monthly and governs the 18,0000 member association.
Mordy is a forth-generation attorney and practices law with the Ardmore firm of Mordy, Mordy, Pfrehm & Wilson PC. He graduated with a BBA from the University of Oklahoma in 1977 and from the Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1980, the same year he was admitted to the OBA.
