Amy Raymond, veteran editor at The Oklahoman, dead at 45
Oklahoman
I ve known Amy Raymond for a quarter century, dating back to a visit to our alma mater, Oklahoma Christian University, where I met the next generation of journalism whiz kids at the student newspaper, The Talon.
Soon after graduation, two of those whiz kids, Amy and fellow student, Christy Watson, joined The Oklahoman s newsroom.
They were among the best of the best. Christy s passion in covering education led her to take jobs beyond The Oklahoman, working on behalf of schools, and she is currently communications director for the Oklahoma State School Boards Association.
“The election code is clear; we need to actually establish that we have these two candidates that were first and second vote-getters in that regular election, so by doing so, then you will address the withdrawal that we ve received,” City Attorney Mark Houser said.
The next item in the meeting was to cancel the runoff election, acknowledging the withdrawal of Penn from the race and recognizing Beller as the winner.
“We did receive a certificate of withdrawal,” City Secretary Empress Drane said. “The city has accepted that, and by state law when two candidates are running for runoff and one withdraws, the remaining candidate is determined the elected winner of that campaign.”

McKinney ISD voters have given the district the permission it needs to continue its method of making recapture payments.
The ballot item asks voters to allow the district to purchase attendance credit from the state with local tax revenue in the May 1 general election. With all precincts reporting, results show 76.9% of the votes have been cast in favor of the measure and 23.1% have been cast against.
Because of a state law change, MISD had to ask voters to approve the process it uses to make recapture payments to the state each year.
The recapture program, also known as Robin Hood, requires property-wealthy school districts to send some of their local tax revenue to the state to be redistributed to property-poor districts. The goal, according to state officials, is an attempt to create financial equity among schools.
