Oklahoma Senator James Lankford’s role in propelling riots by pro-Trump extremists has prompted many Oklahomans, particularly Black Oklahomans, to challenge his position on the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission, an organization that oversees activities related to the commemoration of this tragic event in Tulsa history. The Commission ultimately decided to allow Lankford to remain a member of their body, but many continue to call for his resignation.

Oklahoma Senator James Lankford said that he is against the confirmation of Alejandro Mayorkas as the head of Homeland Security in a statement released on Tuesday.
Lankford said in part. I opposed Mr. Mayorkas s nomination (today) because we need a strong southern border and enforcement of our immigration laws, not an open door for amnesty.
Mayorkas was confirmed in a 56-to-43 vote and is the first immigrant and the first Latino to lead the department.

Lankford is one of a handful of other senators who went against what they originally intended to do on Capitol Hill.
Senator Lankford addressed his colleagues Wednesday night once lawmakers were allowed to return to the House floor.
Before protesters entered the Capitol, the Senator was set to call for a commission to audit the election, but after what happened, he ultimately called on Congress to come together and certify the election for an orderly transition of power.
