OKLAHOMA CITY -
Gloomy weather and scattered showers didn t stop Oklahoma City Public Schools from celebrating their Indigenous seniors with a parade.
The district teamed up with Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City to put on the special event after a tough year, while celebrating their heritage.
“Cultural pride is something that resonates within each student, gives them confidence, makes them proud of who they are. They are also tribal citizens, so they belong to an entire separate tribal sovereign nation,” said Dr. Star Yellowfish, the Director of Native American Student Services.
Usually, NASS puts on a banquet, but COVID-19 made them rethink of a way to celebrate their graduates.

Some of the infrastructure is aging and needs replacing, so we thought let s take this opportunity and think big and really make an even better crystal bridge,” Myriad Botanical Garden president and CEO Maureen Heffernan said.
Heffernan said the design team has been working on this for the past two years. The conservatory will feature more colorful plants and will improve the accessibility for people with disabilities and educational resources.

Driving into the parking lot at Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City, I noticed a long line of people. Others hurried to get in line. A few people watched from the parking garage. Oklahoma City police and OSU-OKC security officers were directing traffic.
Like me, many seemed anxious about receiving their first COVID-19 vaccination from the OKC-County Health Department.
Nan and I were among the 2,500 people getting the Pfizer vaccination last week. Those who had qualified for Phase 2 signed up in 15-minute segments and in groups of 62 or 63 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day. A worker told me the health department had set up the night before in anticipation of the hundreds of people who would be there at any one point.
