A February cold spell that saw temperatures dip as low as 22 below zero in Oklahoma’s Western Panhandle appears to have done little damage to the state’s wheat crop and livestock, according to reports from Extension specialists and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture. Oklahoma State University Extension economist Derrell Peel says livestock losses appear to be marginal. “I’ve checked around with my colleagues in several states and in Oklahoma,” Peel says. “It appears that death loss is pretty minimal, few losses of feedlot cattle or mature cattle.”

4-H Robotics Club offers hope to struggling youth

Todd Johnson, OSU Agricultural Communications Services Aidan Spencer has been instrumental in creating STEM-exposure opportunities for youth in Oklahoma County. The National 4-H Council has named Spencer the winner of the 2021 Youth in Action Pillar Award for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). For one Oklahoma County 4-H’er, a series of life-altering events made a big impact on him.  In 2014, major health issues and surgeries for his sister led to her being placed in hospice care. A few months later his home burned down. The month after that, his family was involved in a car accident that would change their lives forever.
