Santa Clara Co. officials shorten quarantine length from 14 days to 10 days
Santa Clara County released new COVID-19 quarantine guidance on Monday, which shortens the length of quarantine from 14 to 10 days. The new guidance applies to both close contacts of COVID-19 cases and those subject to the county s mandatory travel quarantine. We constantly want to take into account all the best science we have, said Dr. Sarah Rudman, assistant health officer and director of case investigation and contact tracing. We feel the science that the CDC shared with us over the last several weeks confirmed by the California Department of Public Health s review tells us there is a minimum loss of safety by making the change from 14 to 10 days. Essentially, the new guidelines are about finding the balance between the benefit of quarantining and the benefit of getting people back to school or work, Rudman said.

According to numbers provided by the National Center for Education Services, California is expected to see a decrease of three percent in public elementary and secondary school enrollment from 2017-2029. The state expected to see the largest drop in enrollment is New Mexico with a projected 12 percent decrease, while Washington D.C. is projected to see a 14 percent increase over the same time period.

US sportswear brand Under Armour has teamed up with three-time NBA champion Stephen Curry to launch Curry Brand, a purpose-led performance label aiming to ensure young people have equitable access to sport.
Only 22 percent of kids growing up in low-income households in the US are currently participating in youth sports, according to Under Armour, which is something Curry Brand wants to improve.
The brand will focus on partnerships providing an opportunity for youth sports in under-resourced communities - including providing apparel and equipment, creating safe places to play, and ensuring all coaches are engaged in professional development.

A group of eight California lawmakers will advance a proposal in January that would require the state’s public schools to reopen and offer in-person instruction once they receive permission to do so from state and local public-health authorities.
The Democratic legislators co-authoring Assembly Bill 10, one of the first bills introduced this legislative session, say the proposal is essentially in response to the fact that many public schools across California that had the state’s permission to physically reopen campuses this fall remained in remote learning.
