The Pfizer vaccine is set to be administered to residents and staff of Sterling Place, a senior living community associated with Holiday Retirement, at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 4 and Monday, January 25 at the facility, located at 22800 Civic Center Drive in Southfield.
The vaccine is optional for Sterling Place residents and staff; but, only residents and staff can receive the vaccine at this clinic.
Residents and staff can sign up in advance to get the vaccine if desired.

Among the first in the nation to receive the vaccine, the on-site clinic is being done through Oakland County Health Department, with the first dose being given on January 4 and the second on January 25.
Due to COVID-19 safety guidelines, the night shelter at Emmanuel Bethel Church, located near Woodward Avenue and Normandy Road, can accommodate a maximum of 30 guests. The rotating shelter includes nine churches and runs through February. More volunteers are needed to be overnight hosts and to clean.

ROYAL OAK Public and private entities throughout Oakland County have been working together to solve the problem of providing a winter night shelter to the homeless population during a global pandemic. The rotating night shelter program, established in 1993, initially was canceled this year due to COVID-19.

Over the next few weeks, Oakland County public health nurses are planning to administer upwards of 1,800 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to first responders.Â
The county has not received its initial allocation. Tuesday morning, Pfizer representatives informed the county to expect its initial shipment of 1,950 doses either late this week or early next week. The health division expects to receive its second round of doses sometime after the first of the year. The Pfizer vaccine is being manufactured in and shipped across the country to hospitals and local health departments from the company s manufacturing plant in Portage, Mich.Â
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted the Pfizer vaccine emergency use authorization (EUA) last Friday with Michigan hospitals including Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor and Beaumont Health in Southfield administering the state s first doses on Monday and Tuesday to groups of frontline health workers.
