Homebuilder David Compo and his family were identified late Saturday as those killed when their small private plane crashed into a Lyon Township home.
Compo, a 60-year-old who was described as an experienced pilot and cofounder of Novi-based Compo Builders Inc., his 55-year-old wife, Michele, and 18-year-old son, Dawson, were returning from a Dec. 29 trip to Canton, Ga., when their single-engine Piper PA-24 Comanche airplane crashed about a half-mile from Oakland/Southwest Airport in New Hudson, the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan said in a news release.

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) â A family of three killed when their private plane crashed into a Lyon Township home on Saturday has been identified.
David S. Compo, former president of the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan, his wife Michele and their son Dawson all died in the crash when the plane they were flying crashed into a home Saturday afternoon.
âThere was a huge cloud of smoke, like really tall flames, said neighbor Chase Southwick. We thought the whole house was going to be gone.â

A plane crash Saturday afternoon in Lyon Township, Michigan killed the former president of Metro Detroit’s home builders group, his wife and son and sparked a fire in the home they struck, according to the home builders association.
Plane owner David S. Compo an experienced, licensed pilot his wife Michele and their college-age son Dawson were killed in the crash when their private plane smashed into a home half a mile north of the New Hudson airport, the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan said late Saturday in a release.

Compo was co-owner of Compo Builders in Novi, which he operated with his brother. Compo was flying the small plane, which crashed into a house, setting it ablaze. The residents escaped. The family was returning home from Canton, Georgia where they had been since December 29. They were just a half-mile from their destination to the Oakland Southwest Airport according to a news release from the (Homebuilders Association of Michigan, where Compo is president).
