Idaho House Speaker Scott Bedke announces candidacy for Lt. Governor
BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) – Current Idaho Speaker of the House Scott Bedke announced his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor Thursday.
“Bureaucrats in Washington DC are launching an assault on Idaho’s way of life. I promise to defend against that incursion by bringing my values of family, faith, and hard work to the Office of Lieutenant Governor,” Speaker Bedke said. “As a proud constitutional conservative, I will continue to fight for cutting taxes, eliminating red tape, and making the right investments in education and transportation.”
Bedke graduated from Oakley High School and runs the family cattle ranch right down the road. He’s raised four children with his wife Sarah and is the proud grandfather of 14 beautiful grandchildren.

A fast-growing, nationwide teen mental health rehabilitation company is proposing to convert the former Oakley School into a teen residential treatment center, and the Oakley Planning Commission is soliciting feedback at a public hearing Wednesday night.
Newport Academy is applying for a conditional use permit from the city to operate the site with as many as 30 female and 30 male clients aged 13 to 18, with about 200 full- and part-time employees. Oakley School public hearing

At an informational session with the Oakley City Council last week, a Newport Academy leadership team said the firm is growing quickly and has locations on the East and West Coasts. Its philosophy, they said, is to treat the underlying mental health issues that manifest in self-destructive behaviors.
