Synopsis
It weakened into a severe cyclonic storm over northeast Odisha, about 25 km west northwest of Balasore and 35 km south-southwest of Baripada in Odisha. It further weakened into a cyclonic storm at around 5.30 pm. Under the influence of high vertical wind over the region and weaker outflow in the upper levels, it was expected to weaken further into a deep depression, the IMD said.

BHUBANESWAR: Rescuers and combatants of the state and central disaster response agencies have started massive restoration work in the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas landfall on Wednesday. A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) saved the lives of 10 fishermen after their boat capsized in a river in Jagatsinghpur on Tuesday night.
Inspector general of police (operations) Amitabh Thakur, who was deputed in the district, said it was very difficult to conduct the rescue operation at night. “One of the fishermen had called up the Erasama block development officer, Kailash Behera, who informed us about the boat capsize. An NDRF team with their inflatable boat rushed to their rescue. The BDO’s torch light was the only ray of hope during the operation,” Thakur said.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked people to adhere to COVID-19 protocols and wear two masks, adding "At a time when we are fighting with the COVID-19 pandemic, Cyclone Yaas is another challenge that we have to face."

Jagatsinghpur (Odisha) [India], May 25 (ANI): With impending very severe cyclonic storm Yaas predicted to make landfall on the Odisha-West Bengal border on the eastern coast of the country, the district administration evacuated locals from their homes to shelter homes in Jagatsinghpur district.
Speaking to ANI Lakshmi from Sandhakud in Paradeep said, During the last cyclone, my family lost everything. We luckily survived. I have come here with my husband, daughter, and her children.
According to the India Metrological Department (IMD), Cyclone Yaas is likely to cross between Paradeep and Sagar Island near Balasore at noon on May 26.
