The choice of Heidi Bond, “General in the Fight Against COVID-19,” as we put it, has been seconded by many since the “Citizen of the Year” edition appeared last week. She and her team at the Otsego County Department of Health rose to the challenge.
All of us thank her for her tireless contributions in 2020.
Otsego County has been lucky in leadership this year. Here are four other individuals who shone, and there are many others who, unheralded, have as well.
Many county leaders stepped up during the COVID Year, among them, from left, County Treasurer Allen Ruffles, Bassett Healthcare Network CEO Tommy Ibrahim, SUNY Oneonta President Dennis Craig and SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras.

Heidi Bond, Public Health Director for The Otsego County Department of Health has been named Citizen of the Year by Hometown Oneonta, The Freeman’s Journal and www.AllOTSEGO.com. Bond, working tirelessly through the sharing of information and education, has led Otsego County’s fight against COVID-19, to reduce the spread of this deadly virus.
The mission of the Otsego County Health Department is to work in partnership with the community to improve and protect the health and well-being of all residents of Otsego County through health education, disease control and prevention, and public health preparedness.
In our opinion here at Townsquare Media Oneonta, Heidi Bond has gone above and beyond to fulfill that mission, along with everyone else at the Otsego County Department of Health. Bond deserves this honor since she has earned it through her hard work on behalf of county residents.
