A man wanted for the decade-long sexual abuse of a child in Central New York was returned to the state last weekend after being arrested halfway across the country. Richard J. Meier, 35, of Rome, has been charged with sexually assaulting a girl repeatedly over the course of 10 years, said Chief Deputy Derrick O’Meara, of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. The abuse started when the girl was 5 years old, he said. The sheriff’s office started investigating Meier in December after the girl he abused who is now 15 years old disclosed that the man had abused her, said O’Meara, director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center. After a months-long investigation by Investigator Mark R. Chrysler, Meier was indicted by an Oneida County grand jury on April 30 for predatory sexual assault against a child.

Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol says early in the morning on Saturday, May 15th the Oneida County 911 Center received a call from a female victim stating that she had just been threatened with a gun. Oneida County officials say the individual who allegedly threatened the victim was 28-year-old Shai McBride of Utica. Officials say a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) was issued. The BOLO informed any and all law enforcement the description of a vehicle and that the driver may be armed.

Shai A. McBride, 28, of Utica, was accused of threatening the woman early Saturday morning inside a home in Whitesboro, deputies said. After responding to the call, deputies issued a BOLO (be on the look out) for the vehicle McBride was driving, according to the release

Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol tells NEWSChannel 2 the Oneida County 911 center received the call in the early morning hours Saturday for a domestic incident. Moments later, the Oneida County 911 center issued a BOLO (Be on the Lookout) for Mcbride and the car he was driving. Shortly after the alert was issued, a vehicle matching the description was pulled over on John Street in Rome. Sheriff s Deputies then took Mcbride into custody and found an unregistered gun in his possession.
