Sterling native plays in Marine Band at Biden’s inauguration

STERLING HEIGHTS The inauguration of a new president is always a historic event. Lending to the air of pageantry and patriotism is the U.S. Marine Band an elite group of musicians who perform for the commander in chief and in hundreds of public performances each year. And one of its members hails from Sterling Heights.
“It’s humbling to be a part of something so momentous,” Staff Sgt. Cecilia Buettgen, a French horn player in the Marine Band and 2004 graduate of Sterling Heights High, said in an email.

President Joe Biden said the U.S. will engage partners and allies to meet tomorrow s challenges in his first speech as commander in chief.
Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, where a mob of President Donald Trump s supporters broke into the building Jan. 6. He was surrounded by 25,000 National Guard members, who descended on the nation s capital in recent days over security concerns surrounding the transfer of presidential powers.
