BUCS RESUME ROAD TRIP TODAY IN WINDY CITY

BUCS RESUME ROAD TRIP TODAY IN WINDY CITY By Hometown1 May 7, 2021 | 6:57 AM After starting their road trip dropping two of three in San Diego, the Pirates open a three-game set against the Cubs this afternoon. Joe Block has a preview.   While the Pirates have been most often connected to Vanderbilt pitchers Kumar Rocker or Jack Leiter as the likely top overall draft pick, MLB Pipeline yesterday published a mock draft predicting the pick will be a high school shortstop, either Jordan Lawlar, who’s from Dallas, Texas, or Marcelo Mayer of Chula Vista, California. It seems an odd prediction, with the Pirates’ minor league system loaded with shortstops, including top line prospects Oneil Cruz and Liover Peguero.

BUCS HOPE FOR BETTER FORTUNE AFTER CARDINALS SWEEP

The Pirates play the Padres in San Diego tonight.  Tyler Anderson will start for the Bucs but the Padres have not announced their starter.  It will be a 9:45 airtime on WCCS, first pitch at 10:10. The Pirates are rated as having one of the best minor league systems in baseball, and they have loaded their Altoona Curve roster with top prospects.  Roansey Contreras will start tomorrow night’s opener against Bowie.  He came from the Yankees in the Jameson Taillon trade.  The lineup will feature highly-rated prospects Oneil Cruz at shortstop, Ji-Hwan Bae at second base, and slugger Mason Martin at first.

How much will MLB teams rely on top prospects in 2021

share-square-729174 Major League rosters were set on Opening Day, but it s important to remember that they re never set in stone. Active rosters ebb and flow throughout the season as injuries and performance force organizations to make constant moves in search of putting the best possible team on the field. Prospects play their roles in all of this movement, whether it s coming up to the Majors for the first time or returning to The Show from the Minor Leagues to fill a vacant need. That said, some organizations have established farm systems that will allow them to be more reliant on prospects than others during the 2021 season.
