New Delhi: Members of civil society in India have written to the Centre, asking it to urge the Myanmar military to respect the will of the people and release arrested leaders, politicians and protesters immediately.
In a letter written to external affairs minister S. Jaishankar, 30 Indian scholars, writers, jurists and civil society members said the Mynamar junta, after seizing power from the democratically elected government, has been using disproportionate force against peaceful protesters. We have reached out to an NLSIU spokesperson and vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Sudhir Krishnaswamy for comment, though we understand that its 2020 inclusion had followed a semi-independent initiative to crack global rankings carried out by a faculty member under the previous VC, Prof Venkata Rao.
