Seven people arrested during the protest which erupted in Thabong near Welkom in the Free State last week remain in police custody.
Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says they appeared in the Welkom Magistrateâs Court on Monday and their case has been postponed to 22 March 2021 for bail application. Two were arrested for public violence while five were also nabbed for possession of suspected stolen property after shops were looted during the protest. The protest was sparked by water shortages in the area and this led to irate residents barricading streets with burning tyres, big stones and rubbish.
