Muscat: Mild tremors of magnitude between 2.5 and 3.4 on the Richter’s scale were reported by the Earthquake Monitoring Centre at Sultan Qaboos University (EMCSQ) yesterday at 11:23am and 8:34pm.
The morning quake was reported at Jalan Bani, which is 125 km from Sur town and had a magnitude of 3.4 while the evening one was reported 17 km from Diba and was off shore, with a magnitude of 2.5 on Richter’s scale. The shake map report however did not mention any significant alerts on account of these tremors.
Prior to this, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake happened in the Owen Fracture Zone region, west of Gulf of Oman at a depth of 28 km on April 24. The authorities were quick to dismiss a Tsunami threat via a notice issued by Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority.
Muscat: Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a clarification about passengers arriving in Cairo airport on board one of the national carriers of the Sultanate who were found to be COVID-19 positive.
It states that Oman has put into practice stringent health and safety protocols to limit the spread of COVID-19 virus in all airlines operating their flights to and from the Sultanate. Omani carriers are obligated to ensure that passengers flying with them adhere to the safety requirements of the country they are travelling to.
CAA stated that due coordination regarding necessary mandated measures for travelling to Egypt with the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority was undertaken.
Muscat: Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has been issuing alerts about the tropical situation formed in the Arabian Sea.
The most recent alert has indicated that the developments of the tropical situation in the Arabian Sea is classified as a tropical storm with the ability to turn into a tropical cyclone within the next 12 hours, reports a leading Arabic news website.
The authority stated that the wind speed around the centre is 34-47 knots, while its centre is 1,670 km from the coast of the Sultanate of Oman. The cyclone is named Tauktae, pronounced TauTe in Myanmar language, and it means gecko (lizard).
