The Bedford Area School Districtâs school board approved a tentative real estate tax increase as part of its 2021-22 school year budget.
The board voted 7-2 in favor of raising the millage rate 3.8% from 9.842 to 10.215 mills as part of the $32.1 million spending plan that includes a $1.2 million deficit. The increase was the maximum the district was able to increase taxes.
The tax increase generates about $480,000 in additional revenue for the district.
âThis is essentially what we said we were going to do,â Tom Bullington, board president, said, referencing ongoing discussions the board has had over the past year about the need to increase taxes over a period of years as part of a proposed renovation project the district projects will cost about $43 million.
