Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), University of Benin branch, has disclosed that the Federal government lost N1 billion monthly to ghost pensioners monthly.
PTAD postpones resumption of walk-in verification for pensioners

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate has postponed the January 19, 2021 resumption date for walk-in verification for pensioners at its offices nationwide.
It announced the postponement on Friday but gave no new date for the resumption of walk-in verification, adding that the decision was to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The agency disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja by its spokesperson, Olugbenga Ajayi, and signed by the management of PTAD.
It said, “PTAD hereby informs the general public that the proposed resumption of the walk-in verification of pensioners at its headquarters and state liaison offices for all pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme earlier scheduled for January 19, 2021 has been postponed till further notice.
“Pensioners under the civil service pension department (CSPD); the police pensions department (PPD); the customs, immigration prisons pension department (CIPPD); and parastatal pension department (PaPD) will be affected by this suspension,” it said.

Abuja, Jan. 6, 2021 The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has paid 603 former workers of Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) the remaining 85 per cent of their entitlement.
Mr Gbenga Ajayi, Head, Corporate Communications, ALSCON, announced the payment in Abuja on Wednesday.
Ajayi said that following the successful documentation, verification and validation of the former workers of ALSCON by PTAD, 603 former workers of the company were paid in December 2020.
He said that payments were made in 13 batches to the beneficiaries, while payment to the Next-of-Kin of deceased ex-workers would be made soon.
The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Dr Chioma Ejikeme, has at different fora re-assured pensioners that the directorate would continue with the payment of the inherited liabilities to support pensioners’ well-being.
