Klamath County announces open burn window
Spring open burn window starts April 10th at 8 A.M. and ends April 25th at 5 P.M.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Klamath County Public Health (KCPH) officials remind the community the annual air quality zone Spring open burn window begins 8 a.m. Saturday, April 10.
Residents within the air quality zone are allowed to burn yard waste. The burn window ends 5 p.m. Sunday, April 25.

Public Health officials have set the following guidelines for the open burning window:
The air quality advisory must be green. The daily advisory is available at 541-882-BURN (2876).

Oregonians would have an easier time figuring out what they’re allowed to put in their curbside recycling bins and what they must trash under a measure that’s scheduled for a vote in an Oregon Senate Committee on Thursday.
Senate Bill 582 would prohibit the use of the triangular “chasing arrows” symbol on plastics products sold in Oregon unless they are on a state-approved list of items that can genuinely be recycled.

Why this grocery chain is ditching single-use bottled water

If you walk down the drinks aisle inside one of New Seasons Market’s Portland, Oregon, grocery stores later this month, you’ll notice something missing: A shelf that used to hold bottled water will be mostly empty, with plastic and glass bottles replaced by a smaller number of reusable bottles. Another empty shelf below it will be covered with a sign boosting reuse.

New Seasons Market, a chain of 19 stores primarily based in Oregon, and New Leaf Community Markets, its California-based subsidiary, will no longer sell standard single-use bottled water, starting April 22. “We’ve been thinking about packaging in general for a long time,” says sustainability manager Athena Petty. Two years ago, managers decided to begin planning how to eliminate bottled water from store shelves.
