Mid-Willamette Valley business owners said theyâre frustrated by the stateâs COVID-19 restrictions, calling them arbitrary, too strict, confusing and at times contradictory.
Restaurants in downtown Albany could reopen at 25% capacity or a 50-person limit, whichever is smaller, starting on Friday, but North Albany eateries a mile away in the same city had to remain closed for indoor dining. Thatâs because downtown Albany is in Linn County, which dropped to the stateâs high risk category for the first time since November, while Benton County stayed at extreme risk.
âEverybody knows that the Willamette River stops the coronavirus,â quipped Kevin Fujikawa, the owner of Frankieâs Restaurant in North Albany.
Canby bar loses liquor license for defying COVID closure
OLCC suspends Route 99 Roadhouse liquor license after seeing customers and employees indoors without masks
The Route 99 Roadhouse in Canby is closed for what owners say will be a few weeks after the Oregon Liquor Control Commission suspended their liquor license for allowing people to eat and drink inside the building without masks.
OLCC had received complaints in January that the restaurant was allowing groups of customers to gather and consume food and alcohol inside the building, according to a news release from the OLCC. Restaurants in extreme-risk counties, which at the time included Clackamas County, are only allowed to welcome customers for takeout and outdoor dining.

On February 10, 2021, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission issued an Order of Immediate License Suspension to the licensee of Old Town Bar & Grill in Newberg for not following public health social distancing and face covering requirements. The business, which holds a Full On-Premises sales license, is NOT allowed to sell any alcoholic beverages.
During the month of January 2021, the OLCC received a wide range of complaints that the operators of Old Town Bar & Grill were allowing for the indoor consumption of both food and alcohol. Further, it was alleged that the licensee was hosting live music events inside the licensed premises.
