OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - While Owensboro Health wasnât on the initial list of 11 Kentucky hospitals to receive the stateâs first COVID-19 vaccine shipments, health system officials are ready for when it comes.
Dr. Michael Kelley, the vice president of medical affairs at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, said they hope their first shipment will come the week of December 21. However, this plan could change.
He also said he isnât sure which vaccine theyâre going to receive - the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines. Kelley also said that Pfizerâs vaccine requires storage in subzero temperatures, while the Moderna vaccine is a bit easier to store.
It was early in the afternoon shift at the Daviess County Detention Center on Aug. 11 when pounding on a cell door got the attention of deputy jailers.
For the next 10 minutes, Sgt. Shawn Longest, Deputy Thomas Lane and Deputy James Barkman administered CRP on an inmate who had collapsed suddenly in a cell for new jail arrivals. The three continued working on the inmate until emergency responders were able to take over.
At the time, the deputies didnât know if the inmate was going to survive.
âWe didnât know if he made it or not,â Longest said Wednesday. âWhen he left the jail he was not in good condition at all.â
