On May 9, Light Ohio Blue surprised Choctaw Lake resident and U.S. Marshal Peter C. Tobin with the organization’s first Lifetime Achievement Award: Icon of Law Enforcement. The award is named after Tobin and will be presented annually to an Ohio officer who has dedicated his or her life to law enforcement and made a positive impact on their colleagues and community.

In the wake of the fatal police shooting of 16-year old Ma Khia Bryant, House Democrats are calling for changes in how police are trained to do their jobs.
House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) hosted a virtual press conference Tuesday morning to outline a police reform legislative package.
Sykes met virtually with other House democratic lawmakers to come up with ways on increasing accountability for law enforcement, addressing racial bias and improving community-police relations.

Vaccinations and Virus Spread
As of Wednesday, 38 percent of Ohioans have received at least one coronavirus vaccination shot. Although cases have plateaued, virus variants are more contagious among those who have not been vaccinated.
“Just because the numbers are getting better and more people are getting vaccinated, the virus is now more dangerous than it was a few months ago for those who haven’t been vaccinated,” Gov. DeWine said.
“Unvaccinated Ohioans lack the same protection against this virus as those who are vaccinated,” said Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, chief medical officer at the Ohio Department of Health. “The virus is now in more contagious forms that put younger people at much greater risk, including the risk of ending up in the hospital.
