Remnants of landmark Champion skating rink gone for good | News, Sports, Jobs

bcoupland@tribtoday.com CHAMPION It was in late December 2019 that the Champion Skate Rink off Mahoning Avenue caught fire, and this week, the last remnants of the roller rink were removed as crews Tuesday and Wednesday placed scrap from the former building into trucks. Trucks with Porinchak’s Trucking could be seen going in and out of the property, Fire Chief John Hickey said he had pushed to get the property cleaned up, and property owner Keith Brainard, who owned the roller rink, was able to coordinate the cleanup. “We did send a letter out to get it cleaned up, and this week work was done. The owner was able to work it out,” Hickey said.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that killed two young children Sunday inside a recreational vehicle in Whitehall.  The children were identified on a police report Monday as 2-year-old Ezra Payne and 11-month-old Zoee Pack. Whitehall police and firefighters were called around 11:40 a.m. Sunday to the 4100 block of Rickenbacker Avenue on the report of a fully-engulfed mobile home. That mobile home turned out to be an RV.
