Hit-skip crash injures the O Neills of Waynesburg, other driver fled

A Waynesburg couple was returning home on their motorcycle when a car struck it and left them for dead in Coshocton County, a family member said. Shawn O Neill, 57, and his wife, Robin, 58, remain in critical condition with multiple injuries in the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. Their son, James, said his parents will be in the hospital for several weeks.  They are going to have a very, very long road physically and mentally to recover, he said Wednesday. On Thursday afteroon the Coshocton County Sheriff Office reported two people have been charged in connection to this incident.  Jarome L. Starner, 39, of Coshocton and Melannis L. Stevens, 45, of Newcomerstown, were charged with one count each of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. The Coshocton County Sheriff s Office is not releasing any other information regarding the charges, as it continues to investigate the incident.

The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Saturday on state Route 751. The O’Neills had been riding in central Ohio on their 2008 Harley-Davidson and were headed home, their son James said. According to the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office, a dark Nissan Altima was southbound on Route 751, went left of center and struck the O’Neills’ motorcycle. The car drove away, deputies said in a news release.

Man and woman charged with evidence tampering in Coshocton County

The Times-Reporter COSHOCTON Felony charges of tampering with evidence have been filed against two people in connection with a Saturday crash that seriously injured a Waynesburg couple. Charged on Thursday were Melannis L. Stevens, 45, of Newcomerstown, and Jarome L. Starner, 39, of Coshocton, according to Coshocton County Sheriff James A. Crawford. Shawn O Neill, 57, and his wife, Robin, 58, remain in critical condition with multiple injuries in the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. They were injured in a crash that occurred around 4:30 p.m. Saturday on state Route 751. The couple had been heading home on their motorcycle after riding in central Ohio, according to their son James.
