First US health workers get shots as American death toll passes 300,000

The United States has already reached around 300,000 deaths due to pandemic.
Proclaimed critical care nurse Sandra Lindsay said that she was relieved after being the first to be vaccinated at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, as reported by the Associated Press. Lindsay added that she feels like healing is coming.
In Ohio, the state has already started giving initial injections to workers at Ohio State University s Wexner Medical Center.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis personally open the delivery door to the FedEx driver and signed for a package containing 975 frozen doses of vaccine manufactured by Pfizer Inc. and its partner German firm BioNTech.

Mahoning County s COVID-19 deaths are at about 130 deaths per 130,000, significantly higher than four other counties in Ohio with similar populations.
Coronavirus cases continue to surge in Ohio. One area of the state is being particularly hard hit. Mahoning County s death rate from COVID-19 is among the highest in the state. The big question is why? And what does it mean in the long term? That s the focus of a new series of stories coming from Mahoning Matters.
The data that reporter Justin Dennis drew on was compiled by the media collaborative, Your Voice Ohio (which both Mahoning Matters and WKSU are part of). It shows that currently, Mahoning County has about 130 COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 population.

Eight more Ohio hospitals identified as staging areas for regional vaccine distribution are each expected to receive 975 doses today. In the Mahoning Valley’s region, that staging site is Aultman Hospital in Stark County.

COLUMBUS The first coronavirus vaccine distributions in Ohio Monday were “truly a moment of hope” in the state’s nearly yearlong battle against COVID-19, said Gov. Mike DeWine.
Though national experts said Monday the American public could achieve herd immunity from coronavirus by late spring or early summer, DeWine cautioned Ohioans from becoming complacent.
