No injuries after Columbus officer fires into group having confrontation

Columbus police responding to a non-emergency call Tuesday afternoon in South Linden diverted after hearing gunshots nearby, coming upon a group of people in a street confrontation where one officer fired his weapon multiple times. The officers were en route to a non-priority call for service around 2:40 p.m. when at least one of them heard what sounded like shots being fired near busy Cleveland Avenue and East 21st Avenue.  On the 1200 block of 21st Avenue, police witnessed a group of people engaged in a confrontation, said Sgt. James Fuqua, a spokesman for the Columbus Division of Police One officer exited his cruiser and fired upon the group, though Fuqua said it was not immediately clear why he discharged his firearm, such as in response to being fired upon or having a gun pointed at him.
