A 16-year-old Black girl was fatally shot by an officer outside of her home after she called the police for help on Tuesday afternoon, according to her family.
The girl has been identified as Ma’Khia Bryant by her aunt, Hazel Bryant.
Bryant allegedly called officers at about 4:30 p.m. local time when a group of “older kids” threatened her with assault, her aunt told Ohio Statehouse News Bureau Reporter Andy Chow. She did not elaborate on the nature of the threat.

April 20 (Reuters) - Police in Columbus, Ohio, shot a Black 16-year-old girl to death on Tuesday after confronting her while responding to a report of a person armed with a knife, according to the mayor, the youngster s family and media.
The Columbus Dispatch reported a crowd of protesters had gathered near a home on the city s southeast side where the shooting occurred, just minutes before the guilty verdict was announced against the police officer charged with murdering George Floyd last year.
According to the newspaper, police involved in the shooting were answering an emergency-911 call reporting an attempted stabbing by a female suspect.

GRAPHIC bodycamera footage of the police shooting that left a 16-year-old dead in Ohio showed a girl was shot just seconds after cops arrived on scene.
Video showed the girl – who has been identified by family as Ma Khia Bryant, 16 – being shot multiple times amid an altercation with two other females.

A crowd had gathered Tuesday night at the scene on Legion Lane, which police had partially blocked off to traffic. Others gathered at the city’s police headquarters to protest, a week after officers pepper-sprayed a group that tried to enter the headquarters over the police killing of a man who had a gun in a hospital emergency room.
The shooting happened about 25 minutes before a judge read the guilty verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin for murder and manslaughter in the killing of Floyd.
Kimberly Shepherd, 50, who has lived in the neighborhood for 17 years, said she knew the victim.
