Ashland mulls city tax budget for 2022, OKs meat store tax break

DISCUSSION Finance Director Larry Paxton stressed that the budget is an estimate of what the city’s economy will look like in six months, and changes could occur. The fluctuating financial numbers are partially due to the coronavirus pandemic s effect on the economy since March 2020, when restrictions were initiated statewide to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The city is not projecting an increase in 2022 income tax revenue because of economic uncertainty, Paxton said.

He and the hundred or so others with him in line Thursday had plenty of company around the state. As of Monday, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles reported a backlog of 270,000 motor vehicle registrations and driver s licenses that needed to be renewed now that the state has ended the pandemic-prompted grace period. As of Thursday at 2 p.m., BMV officials reported 95,180 drivers licenses and IDs that needed to be renewed and 147,491 vehicle registrations that had expired.

Ohio drivers with a license expiration date on or after March 9, 2020 had been exempted during the COVID-19 emergency under a law signed by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. Before heading into the BMV, remember to take advantage of the Ohio BMV’s virtual queuing system – “Get in Line, Online” and also check out the number of services available from the comfort of home through BMV Online Services, explained the Ohio BMV.
