Democratic Party of Muskingum Finds New Leader
MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-The Muskingum County Democratic Party has appointed Michael Nern as its new chairperson.
Nern is a semi-retired professor at Ohio University Zanesville and a lifelong supporter of the Democratic party. He sees himself as the face of the party, responsible for representing all elected democrats in the county.
“We’re hoping to grow membership. I know that young people are excited about the party these days, so we’re looking to attract young people. We’re looking to attract and get back some members that might have gone away for a while, and to just get democrats and people who might be independent leaning, that way, to join our club,” Nern said of his responsibilities.
Community conversations will explore social justice, diverse topics
ZANESVILLE - A local organization wants to start discussions within the community about social justice, but first it hopes to define what that means. Some people want to be on the ground, engaged in intense conversations, doing the researching, digging into numbers of race in the community, said Darryl Graves, who co-founded the Muskingum County Social Justice Coalition and now leads the group. But some folks at this point are just interested in education on all of these topics.
The coalition is hosting its 12-part community education series supported by the Muskingum County Library System. The next virtual seminar is 6 p.m. Thursday.

Lakesha Huff s newest adventure is the West Street Coffee Bar
The Daily Jeffersonian
Young entrepreneur, Lakesha Huff, 29, has been working to fill the void of businesses missing in the small community of Caldwell.
In October, the Cambridge native opened Bottom Line Co. LLC. Women & Kids Boutique at 400 North St., and on March 1, opened the West Street Coffee Bar at 427 West St.
Prior to these business openings, there were no women s and children s clothing stores or coffee shops within a 30-mile radius of the area, according to Huff.
This is not Huff s first foray into the small business world. She operated a couple of Herbalife shake shops in 2016.
