What s the future of scandal-tainted House Bill 6? Lawmakers have options

COLUMBUS – Ohio lawmakers took just over 100 days to pass a $1 billion bailout for two nuclear plants in the northern part of the state.  Thursday could be lawmakers final opportunity to stop fees for the nuclear plants, owned by Energy Harbor, from hitting ratepayers electric bills next month.  House Republicans say the options come down to a one-year delay in the fees or nothing. Ohio s GOP-controlled Legislature has shown little interest in repealing the law outright.  Here s what could happen: A one-year delay What s the plan? House Bill 798 would delay fees on Ohioans electric bills that would collect $150 million for Energy Harbor by one year. During that time, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio would hire independent auditors to check Energy Harbor s books by May 1.
