“My restaurants, in particular, and I think most restaurants in the area are in the same position,” said Kevin Wakefield, owner of Grind Gastropub & Kona Tiki Bar, 31 Supper Club and Ormond Garage Brewing on Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach. “We’re experiencing record numbers in terms of sales and we’re handling it with a fraction of the staff we ordinarily have. We’re down to 60% to 70% of what our staffing ordinarily would be.”
Wakefield expects to be especially busy on Mother’s Day.
His prediction is echoed by national data from industry research firm OpenTable that shows restaurant reservations for Mother’s Day are up 64% compared to 2019.

As the 2020 spring season of high school football comes to an end, 49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank announces its 49ers High School Coach of the Year to Joe Bates, head coach of Skyline High School. Coach Bates and the Skyline Titans are 3 -1 on the season going into a pivotal championship game against McClymonds High School on Friday night. Having held the head coaching position with his alma mater since 2015, Coach Bates continues to build a strong football program that is respected throughout the Bay Area and the city of Oakland.
Dale Dee Wing, age 64, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 16, 2021. Dale fought a long and hard battle with cancer and has finally won. He is rejoicing with Jesus now.
Dale was born on December 10, 1956 to Merle and Maxine (Helmboldt) Wing. He loved regaling his family with stories of his growing up years. He met the love of his life, Deborah Six, as a teenager and married her on August 20, 1977. He loved her deeply and they spent a rich lifetime together.
Dale worked hard his entire life, brought glory to God, and touched the lives of everyone he met. He owned a fourth-generation construction company and proudly served his community as a member of the Marion Community Fire Department. He raised beef cows and also enjoyed helping his youngest son David harvest crops every summer. He was very talented with building and fixing things and was proud of his creations. He also looked forward to camping and fishing with his family every summer.
