Longford has been allocated €122,745 in funding for seven local projects under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
The scheme provides funding for the development, promotion and maintenance of outdoor amenities such as trails, walkways, cycleways and blueways.
The funding announced on Monday, under Measure 1 of the Scheme, will support small-scale local projects with funding of up to €20,000 each.
It is being announced in partnership with Fáilte Ireland, who are co-funding the projects with the Department of Rural and Community Development.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD explained that further announcements in respect of medium and large scale projects under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, with funding of up to €200,000 and €500,000 respectively for each project, will be made at a later stage.

Laois woodlands and walking trails have never been more appreciated thanks to Covid-19 travel restrictions, and now amenities including Dysart Woods, Abbeyleix Bog and the River Barrow, are to get a funding boost.
Nine Laois projects will share in €160,000 of grants, announced this Monday morning January 18.
Laois Tourism and Recreation Signage Upgrade Programme (Phase 1): Upgrade and replacement of signage Countywide - €20,000.00
Corrigmeal Woodland Trail - Phase 2, Upgrade of trail and enhancement, Dysart, Portlaoise - €16,695.00
Killeshin Reservoir Trail Extension, Development of existing trail, Killeshin Village - €19,800.00
Mapboard installation at Outdoor Recreation facilities throughout County, Countywide trail promotion - €17,206.00
€175,000 for walks, trails and cycleways across County Limerick

FUNDING of almost €175,000 for trails, walkways and cycleways in County Limerick has been announced this Monday.
The money has been allocated by Minister Heather Humphrey to ten projects in the county.
The projects to benefit are: Lough Gur €20,000, Doon €20,000, Knockfierna €20,000, Liskennett €6,588, Kilfinane €19,980, Ballyhoura Trails €19,980, Ballyhoura Cycling Trails €20,000, Ballyhoura Development Marketing Project €19,980, Broadford and Ashford €19,332, Ballyhahill €8,955.
Welcoming the news, Minister Patrick O’Donovan said: Since this Government has been formed Minister Heather Humphreys has made several announcements of funding for communities across Limerick with projects like the Great Southern Greenway receiving very large amounts of money in the last few weeks.

Slieve Bloom Way & ancillaries (Cadamstown & Kinnitty) - Small scale upkeep of the Slieve Bloom Way & ancillary loops - €18,000
Offaly Way & ancillaries (Kilcormac & Lough Boora) - Small scale upkeep and repair of the Offaly Way and ancillary loops at Kilcormac and Lough Boora Discovery Park - €18,000
Grand Canal Greenway - Promotions and marketing - €17,343
Trail counters - Installation of four footfall counters at trail heads - Cadamstown, Kilcormac, Monicknew, Kinnitty - €20,000
